Is it really possible to predict the future?
Yes, absolutely, but…
We can’t discuss precognition, the ability to foretell the future, without discussing fate and freewill. Ask yourself, and think about it for a moment, do you believe in fate? Is your life predetermined, were you destined to meet a certain person or have a certain career? Now ask yourself, do you believe in freewill? Are you capable of making up your own mind when offered a choice? You see, the problem is, the two things are incompatible. If the universe is just unfolding like clockwork, and everything that has happened to you and will happen to you is fixed and immutable then freewill is an illusion.
The Tarot has the answer to this conundrum. Instead of fate, the Tarot is based on something called propensity, which is defined as an inclination or natural tendency. Everything that has happened to you in the past, every life experience, has given you a propensity towards a defined outcome. The most obvious example of this is if you were born into an affluent household you would be more likely to get a higher education and do well than if you were born into poverty. But this also highlights were fate and propensity differ. This outcome isn’t fixed, with sufficient energy and willpower it is possible to redefine your propensity. There are plenty of examples of people who have beaten the odds and done well for themselves despite coming from a disadvantaged background. There are also plenty of examples of people who have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth and offered every advantage but have done badly. There is a third example too. Someone who has been born into money and pushed to succeed in a way defined for them by their family but who, with energy and willpower, have broken free to follow their own dream, perhaps earning less or with less status but with greater freedom and satisfaction.
Predicting the future is a fundamental ability in humans. We can all predict, to varying degrees, the likely consequences of our actions. By scrutinising and interpreting the past and present we can divine our propensity and forecast our future. Interestingly, this ability varies from person to person, for example there is some evidence to suggest that testosterone may impair the ability to consider consequences or assess risk, increasing the likelihood of engaging in risky behaviours. The ability to predict the future also on depends on context. For example, in competitive or stressful situations, and may also be influenced by other factors, such as personality traits and the social environment.
In conclusion, yes it is possible to predict the future but your future isn’t fixed. By gaining an insight into your future by using an oracle such as the Tarot it is possible to work towards it and make it real or, if necessary, it is possible, with perseverance and determination to change your future for a better one.
Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it Fate.
